Musculoskeletal, Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist specializing in assessment and treatment of hip conditions especially Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS), dysplasia and Osteoarthritis. Amir has over 25 years of experience helping patients get back to their optimal function.
Over the past 17 years, Associate Professor Amir Takla and Professor John O'Donnell, an orthopaedic surgeon, have developed rehabilitation protocols for the assessment and treatment of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS) and are currently involved in postgraduate research at several universities in Australia. He has also co-chaired the physiotherapy subgroup of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA).
Associate Professor Amir Takla currently practices in Richmond and East Melbourne and is the Director of Australian Physiotherapy.
Special interests include tennis, gymnastics, dance, performing arts, joint replacement and injury prevention.
________________________________________________A/Prof Amir Takla was born in Alexandria and educated in Melbourne, Australia. He completed his physiotherapy training at the University of Melbourne in 1997. After completing 12 months of clinical practice, he was successfully enrolled in the Masters in Physiotherapy (Manipulative Therapy) at the University of Melbourne. The clinical master's programme focused on advanced clinical reasoning, problem-based learning and manipulative techniques. He then joined Ivanhoe Sports and Physiotherapy Clinic as a Principal Physiotherapist. In 2007 he was successfully recognised as a Sports and Exercise physiotherapist by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Sports Coverage. Miss Aryna Sabalenka – WTA World No.1/No.2 for the 2023/2024 season. Winner of Australian Open 2023, 2024, Madrid Master 2023, finalist of US Open 2023. Roles and responsibilities included musculoskeletal screening, injury management and manipulative care. Miss Marketa Vondroušová WTA world number 7 (Wimbledon Champion 2023) and Mr Lleyton Hewitt.
Physiotherapy positions: Chief Physiotherapist for the Victorian Men's Gymnastics Program – 1997-2007, Australian World Championship Team 2003 and 2005, Australian Open – Sports Physiotherapist for tennis from 2003 to 2023. Travelling private consultant for many top ten tennis players on the ATP/WTA tour, more recently Miss Aryna Sabalenka. Developed many strategies in the management and treatment of players on tour. Involved in the development and management of medical care at professional events.
